DESCRIPTION: A Gandhara Buddha is an early statue of the Buddha from the ancient Gandhara region

(modern-day Pakistan and Afghanistan)

that blends Greek and Roman artistic styles with Buddhist themes, creating a Greco-Buddhist art form.

These sculptures, created from the 1st to the 8th century CE, were among

the first to depict the Buddha in human form after centuries of using symbols.

Clothing: The robes often resemble the toga of Roman senators, draped over one shoulder.

Hair: The hair is frequently styled in waves or curls, and the ushnisha (cranial protuberance) is often shown as a topknot, similar to images of the Greek god Apollo. Facial features:

Faces are often youthful and have a serene, sometimes "sweet," expression, as seen in the Head of a Buddha, Gandharan style sculpture from the 2nd century.
